Wondering what are the reasons why your business struggling on social media? Has it been days since your last inquiry? No likes on your Facebook post? According to Inquirer, Filipinos are proven to spend the most time on social media versus any other country. The traffic is there, but why is it that none of it seems to be coming your way?
Check out the 7 reasons your business is struggling on social media!
1. Your Content Isn’t Interesting
The first of the reasons why your business is struggling on social media is that your content is not that interesting. Attention is a commodity and if you cannot catch the attention of a common viewer, then you won’t be getting any traffic! It needs to be interesting enough for them to not scroll right past it. You can use a properly taken picture or go the extra mile and add in some illustrations!
Examples of content to avoid:
- Blurry pictures of your product
- Dark pictures with bad lighting
- (For food businesses) your food looks unappetizing on camera
- You have too many words in your publications
- Your captions are hard to understand
Websites and applications for image editing:
- Canva
- Piktochart
- Pixlr
- Figma
2. You Are Not Using The Social Media Platform Properly
Different social media platforms call for different marketing strategies and content. Especially, when your business serves a specific kind of audience.
For example, Instagram was made to showcase pictures and videos while Facebook is more multi-purpose because it allows you to join groups, share other people’s content, create an event etc. Cater your content to the respective platform and don’t forget to use more than one! You could be attracting a whole new set of customers on Facebook versus Instagram so be open and put your brand on more platforms!

3. You are Inconsistent
Social media platforms will favour consistent content and so it will be shown to more people. When you are inconsistent, not only will those platforms favour your competitor’s content, but your potential customers won’t want to follow your page. Show your buyer that you are a serious business and be active on your pages!
4. You Do Not Stay Within Your Niche
People want to follow your page for specific reasons and if you keep switching up your content, you are not giving them a reason to follow you.
For example, if you are a food business, don’t start posting or sharing content about flowers or any other topic that does not have anything to do with food. This is your business account NOT your personal account.
5. Your Business Is Not Clear
People have a very short attention span and if it is not obvious what your business is at first glance, then you easily lose many potential buyers.
If you are a makeup business, the profile picture and cover photo should show it. Maybe someone wearing the product or maybe the product itself. Use keywords like meaty, juicy and savoury when describing food or flawless, smooth and bright when describing lotion. There are countless ways to creatively tell people what your business is about, but be sure that you are clear.
6. You Are Marketing To The Wrong People
It is possible that your content is fun and up to date which might attract a lot of younger folk, but if your market is supposed to be older people, you should appeal to their interests more.
If you are, say, a funeral service, then you probably shouldn’t be running your ads toward people under 20. You will waste a lot of money that way! Know the demographics of your target customer!
7. You Are Not Building A Relationship With Your Viewers
Your content could come off very impersonal and too transaction-based.
Be sure to still be entertaining and not always trying to sell them something – though that is the end goal. Interpersonal relationships are becoming more and more important and you need to feel like a friend to your viewers!
“If you are not putting out relevant content in relevant places, you don’t exist.
– Gary Vaynerchuk
